The proposed redevelopment of the Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney (RRCS) is the major issue currently concerning residents of Putney and surrounding districts. The RRCS plans to demolish all buildings and infrastructure on the existing 18 hectare site, and in its place construct a new centre, together with 900 new dwellings up to 6 storeys high on the remainder of the site.

Similar proposals have already been rejected by the City of Ryde Council. As a result, the RRCS is now using the "State Significance" legislation recently introduced by the NSW State Government to overrule council and local resident objections. We consider this to be a total bypass of democracy and a direct attack on our rights as citizens.

The Coalition Against Private Overdevelopment (CAPO) is a sub-committee of the PDPA that has been formed to oppose this gross overdevelopment of the rehabilitation centre site. At a public rally organised by CAPO on 11 December 2005 over 1000 residents and supporters turned out to oppose the RRCS development proposal.
